In Peçenek, bloodthirsty PKK militants who took village headman Nuri Işık and his relatives out of their house and gathered them in a square, later executed 9 people from the same family by firing squad, while the majority of those killed were children."

"MASSACRE HUNT Extraordinary security measures were taken in the region after Metin Çakır, the manager of the ETİBANK Elazığ Kovancılar Şark Ferrochrome Plant and an engineer, and eight officials were executed by firing squad by PKK militants. Reinforcement gendarme commando units and special operations teams were sent to the area from Diyarbakır. 'The incident occurred the previous evening. "PKK terrorists, who attacked Ormancık and Akyürek villages, did not spare the women and children who sought refuge in a house, committing a crime against humanity by using chemical gas bombs. First, they subjected the house to a hail of automatic weapon fire. Not satisfied with that, they fled after throwing hand grenades and gas bombs onto the terrified and crying women and children. 15 people, mostly innocent children, died at the scene. One child also lost their life on the way while being rushed to the hospital.
